ITINERARY 1: WALKING WITH CARAVAGGIO

We start from the “Pio Monte della Misericordia” (Pious Mount of Mercy) in via Tribunali (in the historical center of Naples), where you will see the famous painting "Sette Opere di Misericordia" (Seven Works of Mercy). Then we'll visit the church of San Domenico Maggiore to see a copy of “Flagellazione” (Flagellation) made by a Neapolitan painter D.A.Vaccaro (the original made by Caravaggio is in the Museum of Capodimonte). Our walk will take us from the famous Spaccanapoli, important street of the ancient Greek-Roman Neapolis, to Via Toledo, one of the most famous Neapolitan streets built by a Spanish Viceroy. On the way we make a stop at the Palazzo Colonna-Zevallos di Stigliano where there is the last Neapolitan masterpiece painted by the Caravaggio "Il martirio di sant'Orsola"(The Martyrdom of Saint Ursula). We are now just a few steps away from the Galleria Umberto I, Piazza del Plebiscito. A bit of shopping, a pizza, a "babà"... The sweetest way to end a walk in Naples!

Duration: 1 day

ITINERARY 2: THE TWO GALLERIES -FROM PRINCIPE DI NAPOLI TO UMBERTO I-

The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies is gone, the city of Naples has lost its role of Capital and there is nothing new in the air, all the rules are decided elsewhere. Then they design wider streets, new buildings, between these two Galleries: the first Galleria Principe di Napoli was less fortunate while the second, Galleria Umberto I, became very famous. Our walk will start from the National Archaeological Museum where there are precious testimonies of the towns destroyed by the fury of the volcano Vesuvius in 79 AD. We enter the Galleria Principe di Napoli, in Liberty style ,an inspiration from the elegant French and English shopping malls. Few meters away is Piazza Dante designed by a famous Neapolitan architect Lugi Vanvitelli where there is a Modern Art underground-Station, projected by an Italian architect Gae Aulenti. Then we reach the busy Via Toledo full of shops and elegant mansions, where on the way there's another Metro Art underground Station "Stazione Toledo" defined by the UK's Daily Telegraph as "the most beautiful in Europe" (designed by the Spanish architect Oscar Tusquets Blanca). We end up the walk at the impressive Galleria Umberto I, a meeting point from where we can easily reach Via Toledo, Piazza del Plebiscito with the Royal Palace and the prestigious as well as the most ancient Opera House in the world "Teatro San Carlo."
